What Is CBuD Application, Launched By PM Modi

Team ThePaperBot

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Call Before u Dig (CBuD) mobile application during the inauguration of the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area office and Innovation Centre in India.

What is CBuD?

The CBuD mobile application is an initiative by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Ministry of Communications. The CBuD app facilitates coordination between excavation agencies and underground utility owners to prevent damage to utilities due to digging. Its goal is to provide an interface for excavating organisations to enquire about the availability of existing underground utilities before initiating excavation operations. The utility owners may also use the programme to learn about upcoming work at the location.

Why it is needed?

The availability of information about the excavation work on the CBuD app will also help save time and make the excavation process damage free. When excavation or digging is done at a place, the underground utilities are frequently destroyed since the agencies do not have appropriate information on the existing utilities. The damage causes financial loss to utility owners and inconvenience to the general public. According to the government, over 10 lakh OFC (optical fibre cable) cuts occur each year in the telecom sector, resulting in a loss of approximately 3,000 crores.

Features of CBuD

The CBuD programme provides excavators with information about utility owners, including contact information, so that the two can collaborate. If the utility owner maps the current assets on the PM GatiShakti NMP platform using GIS coordinates, excavators will be able to locate the underground assets as well. Excavators and utility owners will be notified by SMS, email, and in-app notification. The agencies can also utilise the application's "Click to Call" function. Customers can also call the facilitation number (0755-2700802) to learn more about the CBuD application and how it works.

Is Donald Trump going to be arrested?

Team ThePaperBot

Regarding the payment of hush money to Stormy Daniels, Donald Trump has asserted that he would be arrested in New York City.

Why the arrest?

Over seven years after the money exchanged hands, former President Donald Trump is charged with hiding hush money payments to a porn star during his 2016 campaign. If so, Trump will make history as the first US president to be charged with a crime.

What's the case about?

Donald Trump was charged after American porn star Stormy Daniels offered to give media outlets her story of what she claimed to be an adulterous affair she had with Trump in 2006. Michael Cohen, his former attorney, paid Daniels $130,000 (Rs 1.07 lakh) to be silent. The issue is that when Trump paid Cohen, the payment's record said that it was for legal expenses. A misdemeanour, or criminal offence, in New York, amounts to Trump falsifying business records, according to the prosecution. Moreover, they claim that he tried to conceal the payment to Daniels because he didn't want the voters to learn about the affair, which violates election law.

Will this affect Trump's 2024 run?

No. According to legal experts, the Constitution does not contain any limits that prevent those who have been indicted from holding the office of president.

SC: Opposed recognition of same-sex marriage

Team ThePaperBot

The Union government opposed the recognition of same-sex marriage before the supreme court. Legal validation of same-sex marital unions will cause “complete havoc” with the delicate balance of personal laws in the country and in accepted societal values, the Union government told the Supreme Court.

The Indian family unit, which consists of a "biological man and biological woman" with children born out of such wedlock, is not comparable to same-sex couples living together as partners and having a sexual relationship, the government claimed in response to petitions calling for the legal recognition of same-sex marriages.

The government also clarifies that same-sex relations are not unlawful but the state only recognises heterosexual relationships as the mode of marriage. " The state does not recognise these other forms of marriages or unions or personal understandings of relationships between individuals in a society but the same is not unlawful", the affidavit stated.
