The crime, thriller, and drama series with a content rating of 16+ and an average run time of one hour premiered on February 10th, 2022. In the international television series Farzi, which centres on counterfeiting, Vijay Sethupathi plays Michael Vednayagam, Shahid Kapoor plays Artist - Sunny - Sandeep, and Raashii Khanna plays Megha Vyaas. Moreover, it stars Amol Palekkar as Sunny's grandfather Madhav, Kay Kay Menon as Mansoor Dalal, Bhuvan Arora as Sunny's brother Firoz, Chittaranjan Giri as Sunny's uncle Yasir, and Zakhir Hussain (Finance Minister).
It is a brilliant series with an incredible plot and fully deserves to be among the top 10 series on Amazon Video. The story is set in post-demonetization India. The narrative shows the dynamics of greed and need. The plot revolves around two best friends who grew up with one of the boy's grandfathers and are willing to go to any length to keep his grandfather's press alive. A skilled but struggling artist takes his grandfather’s debt problems with his printing press "Kranti" into his own hands. He begins printing his own money at the press. He then joins Mansoor Dalal, who is a big-time criminal who has been supplying counterfeit notes to India from outside the country and Vijay Sethupathi's (Michael Vednayagam's) only target. On the other hand, a story of a cop who is continuing to fail in his marriage but does not want to give up his passion for the country and wants to put a stop to counterfeiting in India, and a committed young professional who has the same passion as the cop. The eight-episode show written and directed by Raj and DK represents the people in India who bear the weight of loans and repayments and end up involved in the decisions that change their lives. They show the crime of counterfeiting as an act of revolt. The series was scripted by directors Sita R. Menon and Suman.
Sunny is a street artist who sells duplicate portraits of best-selling artists. He is known for the perfection of his art. But he believes he deserves better than the life he is living. But it takes a turn when his need turns into greed and he continues to make the perfect fake notes called "Supernote." The story is moving slowly but fiercely. The series uses very strong characters in its storylines. The characters are well-defined, but they are not equally interesting. The storyline of the task has allegedly slowed down the whole storyline in the series. And the duration of each episode was extended; each episode lasted one hour. Equal parts of runtime were not given to all of the lead characters. Some of the side storylines could have been avoided, such as Michael Vednayagam’s wife’s friend character. But still, it did not fail to keep us on our toes and thrilled. The cinematography was top-notch, with generous use of different locations.
As far as performances go, it was top-notch. Vijay Sethupathi's role was sculpted for him—the good cop who does not follow the rules—and he rocked it in his style, and Shahid Kapoor will never fail to stun us with his bad boy with a good heart performance ever, and Raashii Khanna's character is subtle but bold and willing to take any risk to own her chances to contribute to the country, and Bhuvan Arora's character is goofy and loyal to his friend and ready to face any consequences that come his way, and Kay Kay Menon aka Mansoor Dalal rocked his performance in his way by not just portraying but being into the character, and at last, the veteran actor Amol Palekkar graced us with his effortless performance.
Overall, it was a subtle and mind-blowing binge-watch-worthy series that graced us with its thrilling storyline and all its mixed emotions. When you watch this series, you will see many relatable sequences, such as how money can change your life, how being greedy can destroy your life, how not drawing your lines and boundaries between what is right and wrong can lead you into unexpected turns in your life, how focusing on one part of your life can lead you to lose another part of it, and much more. The series can give you mixed emotions and make you wonder who is supposed to be the bad person. As Sunny's granddad tells him, "The difference between a masterpiece and a mess is a single wrong stroke." The series itself raises questions about whether it is a masterpiece or if there was even one mistake, as Sunny's grandfather tells him. The show did not end, though, therefore there is a chance that season 2 will see its return. Let's see what it has in store for us as we wait.
